MENZEL 3 (MZ 3) The Ant Nebula in Norma
Scott says of this image: "I am astounded at how bright it
is in the red, I used a Canon EOS 300d digital SLR, they are not very sensitive
to H alpha. A 10 inch F5.6 Newtonian was used, with three 5 minute exposures at
ISO 200.
MZ 3 doesn't seem to be a well known object, I have not seen any amateur
images of it before, just some HST ones and the DSS images like the one on your
site.
I have yet to ever image a nebula as red as this one, I'm thinking it would not
be very easy to see due to the absence of green light."
